How The Acolyte Season 2 Could Have Featured a Star Wars Love Scene?
In a post on X, Knight Media revealed that The Acolyte Season 2 was preparing to feature a “sex scene” before it was eventually canceled by Disney+.
The scene would have involved Osha (Amandla Stenberg) and Qimir (Manny Jacinto) hooking up in a meditation tank after the former embraced the dark side and left the planet Brendok to train as The Stranger’s new dark side apprentice.
But as this is Star Wars, nothing would have been too explicit, of course. The two’s consciousnesses would have been intertwined through the Force, and the act would have been more like Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri’s (Zoe Saldaña) mating scene in Avatar.
If this had happened, The Acolyte would have crossed a big line, considering George Lucas has been very protective of the IP.
The franchise has been kid-friendly from the start, to the point that Lucas would contact magazines that ran explicit fan fiction based on it in the early ’80s. After all, the franchise has some toys to sell.
Lucasfilm has imposed a no-sex rule even in spinoffs and books, and the sexiest thing to come out of the franchise was Carrie Fisher’s infamous slave bikini look.
Today, Manny Jacinto has arguably become the new Star Wars sex symbol, thanks to his shirtless scene in The Acolyte, when he removed his robe in front of Osha and went for a swim, setting a new standard for thirst traps.
Will The Acolyte Return After Disney+ Rechart?
Just over a month after its first-season finale, Disney+ canceled The Acolyte in August 2024 due to alleged poor ratings and its massive production budget, which reportedly cost about $180 million to $230 million.
At the time, the series was heavily polarized for its fresh take on the High Republic era, but it was also the target of a coordinated review-bombing campaign alongside a huge online backlash.
But two years later, the show re-charted on Disney+ around the release of Maul: Shadow Lord, giving fans fresh hope that the series could continue for a second season.
That said, would there still be a chance for Osha and Qimir’s story to move forward after their escape from Brendok?
“I would still want to do it! Absolutely,” showrunner Leslye Headland told Empire about the possibility of a second-season renewal. “As more people discover it, I think people may want to see some form of the story come back.”
In addition to Osha and Qimir’s story, The Acolyte also teased the arrival of Yoda and Darth Plagueis. There are also theories that Qimir’s The Stranger was the first member of the Knights of Ren, the dark side group later led by Kylo Ren (Adam Driver).
“We did have a lot of stuff that we wanted to explore, including tying in lore to the sequels,” Headland continued. “Getting into who exactly Manny’s character is, his connection with [Jedi Master] Vernestra, his connection with Plagueis, and then his connection with other sequel-established things.”
While there are no words yet on whether The Acolyte will continue, its resurgence could potentially bring renewed attention to the series and its unfinished story.
