Back during Comic-Con, it was confirmed that Taika Waititi was teaming up again with Marvel to work on Thor: Love and Thunder, but it looks like he's going to be making one more film for Fox Searchlight before jumping back on the Marvel train.
According to Variety, Waititi is teaming up with Fox Searchlight on a secret project with a plot that is currently under wraps. We know absolutely nothing about the story, but based on the timeline, it could be something closer to Waititi's smaller films like Boy and Hunt for the Wilderpeople. With Thor 4 set to come out in 2022, there's a lot of time to work on something smaller and attuned to Waititi's more signature genre.
Waititi was originally set to direct the adaptation of Akira for WB before he had to postpone the project to work on Thor. I can only imagine that his new "secret movie" is already way into development, hence Waititi jumping at the chance to direct it before going straight back to Love and Thunder.
For now, everyone is excited to see the release of Jojo Rabbit, a satirical movie set in WW2 where a young German boy named Jojo discovers that his mother is hiding a Jewish girl. Waititi himself is cast in the film as an imaginary version of Hitler who is also the best friend of Jojo.
Set during World War Two, an awkward young German boy whose only ally is his imaginary friend Hitler has his naïve patriotism tested when he meets a young girl who upends his world views.
Catch Jojo Rabbit in theaters Oct. 18.
