The DC Universe's first chapter has been the talk of the comic book film fandom for months now and much like the soon-to-be-defunct DC Extended Universe, the rebooted franchise will be ushered in by the Man of Steel in 2025. Last January, James Gunn confirmed that Superman: Legacy will be the first big-screen offering from DC Studios and it's set to explore Clark Kent's early days as a correspondent in The Daily Planet.

Since the DCU's Chapter 1 slate announcement, Gunn has kept mum about the Superman reboot's key details, including its cast and director, and all we know is that Henry Cavill won't be returning to reprise his role as the mighty Kryptonian. Now, it turns out that the studio has finally decided which filmmaker should do the job, and it's someone we were all suspecting.

In an interview with ComicPop, DC Comics writer Tom King revealed that Superman: Legacy's director is none other than Gunn himself who also penned the reboot's script. We're not sure if this was intentional or an actual boo-boo from King but here's what he said:

"I mean, it’s tough because, there’s stuff I can talk about, and stuff I can’t… It’s a totally fair question. I mean, James Gunn is a super nerd and he’s super creative, right? He’s the writer and director of the Superman movie and he’s sort of the creative force behind all of this, him and Peter Safran. And he reached out to a group of screenwriters and myself, fantastic, amazing… whose names he’s put out there, to work on making these movies and TV shows as good as they can be."

As it stands, Gunn has yet to confirm whether King's statement is true or not but if we're being honest, we all knew from the get-go that he'd also be the one to helm the project. Say what you will about him but Gunn sure knows his stuff and I'm pretty sure he can give fans a definitive Superman flick.

DC Studios' Superman: Legacy is slated for theatrical release on July 11, 2025.
