Milly Alcock surely proved to fans just how talented she is ever since playing the role of the younger Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon.
Now, as she throws herself into the DC Universe as the new torch of Supergirl gets passed down, she admits she had doubts about even making it in the first place. Here's why.
What Was the Supergirl Star Really Afraid Of When Joining DC?
Milly Alcock is no stranger to playing the central character for a franchise (House of the Dragon), but a superhero franchise may just be a tad different to collaborate in. Speaking to Forbes Australia, Alcock had mixed reactions when she got the call from the film's director, Craig Gillespie:
"I thought, 'What have I done?' I really struggled to believe I could do it," Milly recalled the conversation, "I even called the director [Craig Gillespie] saying, 'I don't know how to be that person. I'm just me.'"
Fortunately, she had eventually come to realize that all she needed was to trust herself and the process. "I always believe life is right on time. Things happen when they're supposed to, whether you feel ready or not."

But in truth, it was far more than an irrational fear of failing. As it turns out, she said in the same interview that she first faced self-doubt while filming House of the Dragon, when an unnamed production member suggested she take acting lessons.
While it affected her confidence, Alcock feels the comment wasn't meant to dissuade her but to teach her.
"I was young, on the other side of the world, already doubting myself. It just knocked any confidence I had," Alcock said, "But in hindsight, it made the work better. No one's trying to be cruel. If you do well, they do well. Film is collaborative."

Everyone in theaters practically screamed that for once, DC fans will finally get a comic book-accurate portrayal of Clark's cousin, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, and who could've done it better than one of the most talented rising stars in Hollywood, Milly Alcock?
In the upcoming movie, Supergirl will be centered on the titular hero celebrating her 21st birthday as she travels across the galaxy with her rowdy dog Krpto, during which, according to the official plot synopsis (per Variety), she meets the young Ruthye (Eve Ridley) and goes on a "murderous quest for revenge."
Gunn previously teased that apart from "being a total mess" of a character with a "completely different background from Superman", Supergirl will be focused on a "space adventure", similar to how Guardians of the Galaxy involved their stories in the MCU.
Meanwhile, Supergirl hits the big screens on June 26, 2026.
