The Super Mario Bros. Movie Releases First Clip Showing the Mushroom Kingdom

The Mario video game is set to make its return to the big screen soon with the upcoming animated film The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Based on the trailers that they released so far, it looks like it is very faithful to the source material as they pretty much retained the character designs and they're also paying homage to the different Mario video games throughout history.

During the recent Game Awards, Illumination and Nintendo released the first clip from The Super Mario Bros. Movie titled "Mushroom Kingdom" where we saw Mario (Chris Pratt) being toured by Toad (Keegan-Michael Key) around the Mushroom Kingdom and went through various floating platforms before arriving at Princess Peach's castle.

Based on the clip, you can tell that the film is paying homage a lot to the video games just in the music alone as they play a version of the iconic theme. We also got to see and hear another preview of Pratt's voice as Mario, who really seems to be trying to pull off some sort of an Italian accent.

Just like the previous trailers that they released, the visuals here are bright and colorful. There is no doubt that it is faithful to the source material as we see them go through the floating platforms just like when we play any kind of Mario game. This looks very promising and this should hype up the excitement for fans who have been looking forward to it.

The cast also includes Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Seth Rogen, Fred Armisen, Kevin Michael Richardson, Sebastian Maniscalco, and original Mario voice actor Charles Martinet in an undisclosed cameo role. Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic directed the film.
