Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is proof that this Star Wars trilogy might just be the worst one of the three we have. Don't get me wrong, The Rise of Skywalker is easily better than any of the prequels since it at least has some decent acting and a couple of solid fight scenes, along with some actual emotion here and there. That being said, the prequel trilogy is at least cohesive and is clearly the vision of one person, which cannot be said for the Disney one.
Let's be honest you guys, Lucasfilm needs a Kevin Feige. Not the actual Feige from Marvel Studios but someone in his role to micromanage all the movies and make sure they all connect in some way that makes sense. How is it that the MCU as a whole is more cohesive than three Star Wars movies? THREE STAR WARS MOVIES?!
When you watch The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker together, all three movies clearly lack a singular vision. Though many fans were angry at Rian Johnson for throwing away a number of the plot elements J.J. Abrams planted in The Force Awakens, the fact of the matter is, Abrams himself clearly had no answers of his own since the man as The Rise of Skywalker shows.
MAJOR THE RISE OF SKYWALKER SPOILERS FROM HERE ON OUT
After The Force Awakens gave us an intriguing mystery about Rey's parents, Johnson decided to do something bold by stating that her family was no one special. This was great since it showed that anyone can wield The Force and do good; you don't have to come from a family of royalty since, as Kylo Ren shows, there's no guarantee that you'll turn out well.
But no, Abrams decided to make Rey a Palpatine and her parents were actually honorable people who pretended to be nobodies. What a load of garbage. Had someone been in charge of the stories, they could have either prevented Johnson from making this reveal or make the next director do something special with this. Alas, Abrams decided to try and please everyone, which might actually work for die-hard Star Wars fans.
Then again, he didn't even answer every question fans had so who knows how this will go down in history.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is now showing in theaters.
