Jedi and their tragedy are at the heart of most Star Wars stories. But who is the strongest Jedi in the Galaxy? Here are some of the most powerful:
Please note that for the purposes of this list, we are focusing on canon Jedi who have appeared in major series and movies.
In the wider Star Wars universe also known as Star Wars Legends, you can find even more examples.

Kanan Jarrus
Compared to others on this list, Kanan Jarrus doesn't change the entire Galaxy with his Jedi powers but don't underestimate the beloved Rebels character.
Kanan was able to survive Order 66 while still a teenager, and, while luck may have been a factor, it takes great skill to bypass a death order and keep living and rebelling in a world that is hostile to Jedi.
While he sometimes feels that he's lost his way as a Jedi, Kanan is strong in the Force, and, despite their differences, he's taught his apprentice well.
Qui-Gon Jinn
Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan's master, is a bit of a black sheep where the Council is concerned due to his unorthodox ways but he remains one of the strongest Jedi masters.
He's remarkable for his interest in different Force traditions, his spirituality, and his perceptiveness, as he quickly identified Anakin's potential.
While Qui-Gon dies relatively early, he's the first Jedi of his time to discover how to become a Force Ghost.
This way, he preserves his consciousness to keep guiding others through the Force -- a skill Obi-Wan and Yoda also pick up.
Mace Windu
With his purple lightsaber and excellent combat skills, Mace Windu is one of the most iconic Jedi from the prequel era.
His position as a leading member of the Jedi Council shows that his abilities and wisdom are respected by all in the Order.
Apart from the Force abilities shared by all Jedi, he possesses the handy ability to perceive his opponents' weaknesses and act accordingly, which makes him a nightmare for his enemies!
Rey Skywalker
The sequel Star Wars trilogy is a bit controversial and so is its protagonist, Rey. But given how easily she mastered the Force -- with less training than anyone on this list -- it'd be unfair not to give her a spot.
Her connection to the Force is among the strongest we've seen and she's also a skilled pilot, engineer, and combatant.
Some fans are annoyed by the speed with which Rey masters things she has no previous experience with, especially since, compared to characters like Luke, she hardly ever fails.
Her abilities are somewhat justified by her legacy but many viewers feel that if her powers had unfolded gradually her arc would have been more satisfying.
Luke Skywalker
There's a lot of debate as to whether Luke Skywalker is the strongest Jedi. He's definitely the first one most Star Wars fans came to root for and his powers aren't to be underestimated.
Compared to others on this list, Luke had less time and opportunities to train, as he only found out about his powers as a young adult and went on to fight a war pretty much immediately after.
This doesn't prevent him from being one of the most legendary Jedi.
After all, he's the Chosen One's son and he learns a lot over the course of the original trilogy.
In terms of his force of will, one can say he's even stronger than Anakin, as he's never really tempted to join the dark side.
Obi-Wan Kenobi
Obi-Wan Kenobi is among the most legendary Jedi.
He defeats Darth Maul twice, he manages to take down Grievous, and he even significantly weakens Anakin, his very powerful former apprentice in Mustafar.
Apart from his strong Force and combat skills, Obi-Wan is also wise and skilled at survival.
After Order 66, he's able to lie low for nearly two decades in a world that actively hunts Jedi and he survives long enough to train Luke and give the Galaxy a chance at freedom.
Ahsoka Tano
Ahsoka Tano is one of the strongest Jedi and she learnt from the best. She was Yoda's prize pupil and later became the padawan of Anakin Skywalker.
Her strength with the Force and her lightsaber and combat skills are to the point.
While her kill count largely consists of droids, it's still one of the highest kill counts in Star Wars.
During the Ahsoka series, she will be in her prime and we expect to see her powers in full display.
Comparing the powers and abilities of fictional characters who have never fought against each other or side by side isn't always easy.
That being said, many fans believe she's stronger than Luke.
Anakin Skywalker
Anakin Skywalker was one of the strongest Jedi alive when in his prime.
Qui-Gon was so impressed with Anakin's midi-chlorian count that he insisted on training him even though he was past the customary Jedi training age.
He's unusually strong with the Force, but he's also a talented pilot and war General during Clone Wars.
Anakin's injuries at the hands of his former master Obi-Wan mean that he was no longer as powerful, although Darth Vader is still one of the strongest Sith ever.
Yoda
It's really hard to pick one single Jedi as the strongest but Yoda gets on top of this list due to sheer centuries of learning.
He has trained several generations of Jedi, and even Palpatine was afraid of Yoda's powers -- plus, Yoda was one of the few Jedi to survive Order 66.
Even as a small and very elderly master, Yoda was always a formidable opponent.
It's safe to say that several Jedi on this list wouldn't be as powerful as they are without his mentorship.
