It looks like Disney wants to keep working with Rick Famuyiwa. A new report reveals that the Dope director is currently in negotiations to direct episodes for Disney+'s other Star Wars series that will focus on Cassian Andor.
The report comes from DiscussingFilm which confirms Famuyiwa is being optioned out to work on "an undisclosed amount of episodes" for the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story spin-off series. If a deal is made, this would ensure that Famuyiwa will be directing episodes for two Disney+ shows. It was previously confirmed that the Brown Sugar director would helm two episodes of The Mandalorian.
The Cassian Andor series will bring back Diego Luna as the titular character and is expected to follow Cassian's life before he met Jyn Erso in Rogue One. Alan Tudyk, who played Cassian's droid companion K-2SO in the Star Wars film, has also been confirmed to reprise his role.
It was previously reported that Luna expressed disappointment over Cassian's demise in Rogue One. However, he is excited to bring back the character in the Disney+ series. After all, this would mean that fans will get to learn more about Cassian and how he became a member of the Rebel Alliance.
The Americans executive producer Stephen Schiff will serve as the showrunner for the Cassian Andor series. The show is expected to begin production in October.
Cassian Andor has not yet been given an official release date but fans are hoping that the series will premiere on Disney+ by late 2020. In the meantime, people will get to see Famuyiwa's episode in The Mandalorian when the show begins streaming on November 12.
