There is little doubt that the Obi-Wan Kenobi series is the most highly-anticipated Star Wars show coming to Disney+ after The Mandalorian. However, fans probably shouldn't expect the Ewan McGregor series to get a second season. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy has just confirmed that the Obi-Wan show is a limited series that could only run for one season.
Kennedy spoke to The Wrap about the future of Star Wars and the Lucasfilm president stated that she was very happy to be working with director Deborah Chow on the Obi-Wan show. Interestingly, her statement confirmed that the series isn't meant to last for several seasons.
"It's been very exciting to see the talent that's come in. And we're now developing the limited Obi-Wan Kenobi series with Deborah Chow, and she's just been doing a phenomenal job," Kennedy said.
So what exactly does this mean? The Obi-Wan Kenobi series may only reveal a small part of the Jedi Master's life after the events in Revenge of the Sith and its story arc could be told in just a few episodes. It has already been confirmed that the show will have at least eight episodes which would make it longer than a mini-series.
But is there any chance that Kennedy might change her mind about making the Obi-Wan series a limited project? That might depend on the success of the show after the first season. For now, we're hoping that the story arc will be well worth the wait.
The Obi-Wan Kenobi series has not yet been given an official release date. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
