Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is going to be the final installment in this trilogy, as well as an ending to the current Skywalker story. Since this is the ending to a long-running story, some people assumed that we won't be seeing these characters again, aside from the occasional spin-off, comic book, or original novel. However, that doesn't appear to be the case since Kathleen Kennedy hinted that we would be seeing more of them.
During an interview with MTV News, Kennedy was asked about the future of Star Wars and what we would be seeing after The Rise of Skywalker, along with the fate of these new characters. Though the Lucasfilm boss didn't give a lot of details about what could be happening (outside of a possible Old Republic movie), she did say that certain characters from the current trilogy would live on.
It will be interesting to see what could happen to Rey, Finn, and Poe Dameron if they ever appear again. These characters have clearly left their mark on the fans and we don't want any of them to die (though that could still happen).
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker comes out in December.
