Star Trek: Discovery has been an interesting entry in the franchise's long-running lore, to say the least. While it clearly understands the themes and messages of Star Trek, fans have had a mixed reaction to the inspiration from the J.J. Abrams films, with violence and plenty of hectic chaos. The show is also like a lot of other shows in that it has season-long arcs but it looks like its spin-off, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, won't be doing that.
Producer Alex Kurtzman recently spoke with Deadline about Star Trek and brought up how Strange New Worlds will be more like The Original Series with its self-contained alien of the week episodes. Don't worry, the show will have overarching arcs for the characters, which were previously teased during Comic-Con@Home but the emphasis on this kind of storytelling should please fans.
Will this be enough to lure in Star Trek fans who didn't enjoy Discovery too much? That remains to be seen, as of this writing. The teases of this series from Discovery were enjoyable enough for fans so they might eat up Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. No release date has been revealed but will start shooting next year.
