Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will go down in history as one of the best gaming comeback stories ever. The original Final Fantasy XIV was a dull, uninteresting mess that no one really paid attention to, while A Realm Reborn brought back fans in a big way, addressing several issues and adding a great storyline that fans always come back for. Shadowbringers, the latest expansion, has such a great story that many say it's up there with the best of Final Fantasy.
Considering all the game's success, not to mention the live-action show based on the game coming out, it's easy to see why Square Enix won't be replacing this game anytime soon. When asked about making a new Final Fantasy MMO by German website Spieletipps, Square Enix stated that there are no plans to do so.
This isn't too surprising since, once again, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is still a huge money maker for the company. The fact that it's a subscription-based MMO is surprising since it's still a fan-favorite game to this day, meaning that a lot of people are willing to pay the monthly fee to keep playing. That's when you know that an online game is worth the investment.
While I've never played A Realm Reborn (paying a monthly fee for this game is a bit much right now), the amount of hype and praise this online title has achieved is amazing. Don't expect to see the next Final Fantasy MMO anytime soon, with the most likely replacement coming in the next console era.
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is now available. Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers is the game's latest expansion and is also available right now.
