Spider-Man: Far From Home director Jon Watts has a new project, unfortunately, it seems like it has nothing to do with Tom Holland's Spider-Man.
Marvel fans might have been holding on to the hope of seeing Sony patching things up with Disney so that Spider-Man stays in the MCU, but the studios have yet to come to an agreement, and now it looks like Watts is moving on.
According to a new report by Deadline, Watts has just signed on to direct a new FX Network series. The filmmaker will be working together with John Lithgow and Jeff Bridges to create The Old Man, a new FX show based on a spy novel of the same name written by Thomas Percy.
The series is going to follow the adventures of Dan Chase, a spy who left the CIA to live a life outside of espionage. However, an assassin tries to locate Chase to murder him. It's only then that Chase realizes that he has to finally face his past so that he can move on with his life.
Interestingly enough, while The Old Man isn't in any way connected to Marvel, it seems like Watts is still being kept in the Disney family. After all, FX is still a Mickey Mouse House subsidiary.
We're honestly hoping Sony and Disney patch things so that Watts can return to complete his Spider-Man trilogy in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It might take a while, but then again, Marvel has a lot of room for Phase 4 of the MCU.
The Old Man is expected to start production this Fall.
