Alan Cumming reflected on his "healing" return as Nightcrawler in Avengers: Doomsday decades after he last played the character in X2.
The Emmy-winning actor is confirmed to be one of the Fox X-Men cast members who is reprising their role in the upcoming MCU film. Fans have been looking forward to seeing how the X-Men characters will interact with the Avengers characters, and what it all means for the ongoing Multiverse Saga of the franchise.
What Does Alan Cumming Think of His Return as Nightcrawler in Avengers: Doomsday?

In an interview with People, Cumming opened up about his experience filming Avengers: Doomsday and "healing" return as Nightcrawler after more than 20 years.
"I just came back. It was amazing. It was actually really... in a sort of ooey, gooey way, it was really healing and really nice to go back to something that it was a terrible experience when I did it the first time. A great film, great film. I love the film," he said.
Cumming explained that he had a "miserable" experience filming X2, and it was "awful for a variety of reasons that I have talked about at length." Fortunately, for Doomsday, it was a positive environment for him.
"It was actually really great to go back. And especially, I'm 60 years old. I did not think I would be doing stunts, playing a superhero in my 60s. So that was great," he said.
"And everyone was really nice. And I got it done really quickly because I couldn't go, because of The Traitors, when most of my scenes were being shot. So I squashed them all together, and got a green screen and various things and little scenes of people here and there. But it was pretty stealthy."
What to Expect in Avengers: Doomsday
Just like any other MCU film, the plot details regarding Avengers: Doomsday are still under wraps, but we can expect Doctor Doom to have a sizeable role.
The film has a super-sized cast led by Robert Downey Jr. Some of the core cast members in the Multiverse Saga are expected to return, including the main cast of The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Thunderbolts*, as well as actors from the Fox X-Men movies.
Aside from Cumming, the other Fox X-Men cast members that are expected to return are Kelsey Grammer, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Rebecca Romijn, and James Marsden.
The release date is currently scheduled for December 18, 2026. Production is ongoing, and it is expected to film back-to-back with Secret Wars.
