While D23 may be the big event of the weekend, Keystone Comic-Con was able to land a panel with Tom Holland; amazingly, in the midst of this whole falling out debacle with Sony and Disney. What's interesting was, before the panel, audiences were asked not to ask about the Sony/Marvel deal for a very specific reason.
Talking to the Philadelphia Inquirer, attendee Nicole Emma said, "It was kind of odd to be told not to ask about it, but then have them ask it in the interview… The answer he gave was so scripted, I think they're still working on it… It was almost literally word for word what he said at D23."
In a tweet, Emma also said that the decision to ask the audience was so it wouldn't "mess up any contract discussions."
Knowing that Holland is notorious for press slip-ups, it would make sense that the audience would be asked to not ask any Sony/Disney questions, lest Holland drops something big. If anything, this gives fans a lot of hope that Spider-Man could stay in the MCU. After the whirlwind last week, rumors have been coming out that negotiations are finally looking better.
Of course, we should all just take this with a grain of salt. The way Holland is talking, he's hopeful about Spider-Man moving forward without the MCU. A lot of people are also slowly accepting defeat when it comes to the issue, but if James Gunn can come back for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, then having Sony and Disney bury the hatchet may not be so impossible.
Catch Holland in Spider-Man: Far from Home now in theaters.
