Expectations are spectacularly high for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse's upcoming sequel and for good reason. The 2018 3D-animated flick was without a doubt that year's sleeper hit and even earned itself the Best Animated Feature nod at the Academy Awards. Some fans even argue that it's the best Spider-Man film in existence which speaks volumes of how good it was.
However, the film experienced multiple setbacks along the way, and most recently, a report shed light on the sequel's alleged financial and creative issues. During a recent episode of Matthew Belloni's The Town with Matthew Belloni podcast, the insider discussed Across the Spider-Verse's problems, stating "they scrapped a bunch of stuff and went back - it's Lord and Miller & they kind of write as they go".
While that might sound a little concerning, a new report claims that the production issues weren't a factor at all. In fact, the film is said to be still on par with Into the Spider-Verse.
That new information comes from @bigscreenleaks (via Comic Book Movie) who said that Across the Spider-Verse is a pretty solid comic book flick despite the reported production hurdles the film experienced. He even went as far as saying that it could be better than the first one. The insider said: "I’ve heard it’s just as good [as Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse] if not better."

As it stands, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is rumored to feature several nods and references to Spider-Man: No Way Home and could even feature a cameo appearance from Tom Holland himself. That remains to be seen, of course but if Sony is indeed going that route, then we're probably looking at another smash hit.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is set to release in theaters this June 2.
