Ravi Ahuja confirmed that he has been asked several times about the future of Spider-Man after Brand New Day.
The film’s post-credits scene seems to hint that the webslinger will return after being traced by Ned’s (Jacob Batalon) Spidey tracker in space, though this is open to different interpretations, with several theories about when he will be seen again and whether it’s indeed Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, Tobey Maguire, or Andrew Garfield.
Thankfully, the Sony boss has finally broken his silence about it and even revealed when it could potentially come out.
“We don’t have a date for it yet. A couple years usually, but there’s a Spider-Verse movie coming next year,” he told Variety.
While the answer appears vague, it confirms that a fifth Spider-Man film is happening, with Tom Holland in it.
The timeline also follows the previous films’ releases, with a two-year interval between Homecoming, Far From Home, and No Way Home, though it takes five years before Brand New Day comes out.
As Avengers: Secret Wars is said to be rebooting the MCU, it only makes sense for a new Spider-Man movie to be released after it to fit the story.
Will Tom Holland Return After Spider-Man: Brand New Day?
Sony Pictures CEO Tom Rothman confirmed to Deadline that Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures are now on a picture-by-picture basis rather than having a multi-picture deal.
This means that if either of them wants to do another Spider-Man movie, they have to negotiate with the actors, including Tom Holland, as they don’t have a deal with any of them.
As Rothman claimed, he “hopes Tom Holland comes back.” They have to craft a good deal to make him return–especially since the future of Spider-Man 5 depends on his comeback.
But while the 30-year-old actor is open to the idea of passing the baton to a new generation of Spider-Man, he also says that he’s open to playing the role “for as long as they’ll have me.”
“I think the truth is that playing Spider-Man has been the joy of my life. I now kind of stand on the plinth of like, I’ll do it for as long as they’ll have me,” he told GQ.
