Marvel fans might be hoping to see Sony trying to reach out and make amends with Disney so that Spider-Man can stay over at Marvel, however, new reports say that talks between the two studios are no longer happening.
While a few trade sites try to give fans hope by saying that negotiations between Sony and Disney are still going on, The LA Times says that sources have disputed this notion, saying that talks were dead.
This might be pretty disheartening for Marvel fans – not only has everyone long since agreed that Spider-Man is definitely at home in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the box office seems to agree with the web crawler's place as well.
Still, the fallout between the companies didn't happen as instantaneously as one might presume. Marvel President Kevin Feige said that he would no longer produce Spider-Man movies released by Sony after the two failed to reach a new agreement.
Aside from the fact that Disney wanted to have a 50% co-financing stake with Sony, one of the issues that surfaced was the growing demands on Feige's time. Not only is Feige overseeing Disney+ projects and upcoming Phase 4 films, but he's also in charge of the X-Men, Fantastic Four, Deadpool, and all of the other mutant heroes that Marvel gained after Disney acquired 21st Century Fox.
According to the said report, Disney wants Feige to keep his focus on properties owned by the Mickey Mouse House, something which doesn't include Spidey.
It's such a shame really how things had to end up this way. Hopefully, Disney and Sony decide to rekindle talks for Spider-Man to stay in the MCU.
Tom Holland's Spider-Man made his latest appearance in Avengers: Endgame which is currently available on Digital HD, Blu-Ray, and DVD.
