Sony CEO Says Failed Spider-Man Agreement Can Partly Be Blamed On Marvel’s Many Commitments

Marvel fans might still be holding on to the hope that Disney and Sony finally settle on their Spider-Man agreement so that Tom Holland's version of the wallcrawler can keep staying in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it looks like the companies aren't going to come to an agreement anytime soon.

Sony Pictures Chairman and CEO Tony Vincinquerra just recently spoke in an interview with Variety to update fans about the status of the Spider-Man agreement, saying that for now, the MCU "door is closed" on Holland's web-swinging hero. While Sony did its best, Vincinquerra says that Disney's merger with 20th Century Fox gave Marvel more IPs to deal with, allowing less time for Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige to collaborate with a property that Sony owns.

"We had a great run with [Feige] on Spider-Man movies," Vinciquerra told the entertainment news outlet, "We tried to see if there's a way to work it out ... the Marvel people are terrific people, we have great respect for them, but on the other hand we have some pretty terrific people of our own. Kevin didn't do all the work."

It seems like Marvel no longer has time for Spider-Man. Such a shame considering the fact that Marvel fans loved every bit of Holland's version of Peter Parker. Ever since he first appeared in Captain America: Civil War, Holland was considered the best live-action version of Spider-Man. Not only was Holland able to portray a comic book accurate version of the hero, but his Spider-Man also played a large role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, forming important bonds with heroes like Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and with others. Such a shame indeed.

Spider-Man: Far From Home is going to get its digital release sometime in October.
