- Quick Answer: Skeet Ulrich will not return to Scream because Billy Loomis existed only in Sam’s mind, making a comeback impossible following Melissa Barrera's firing.
Skeet Ulrich has shot down the possibility of returning to the Scream franchise after the firing of Melissa Barrera.
The franchise veteran notably reprised the role of Billy Loomis during the dream sequences in the fifth and sixth Scream movies, but he did not return in the seventh installment released earlier this year. Fans have been wondering whether he is still open to returning to the franchise someday.
Why Skeet Ulrich Is Not Open to Return to the Scream Franchise

In a recent interview with Us Weekly, Skeet Ulrich was asked whether he is still open to returning as Billy Loomis in a future installment of the Scream franchise.
However, he shot down any possibility, citing the firing of Melissa Barrera, who played his character's daughter Sam, as the reason why he won't agree to a comeback and won't finish the supposed three-movie arc for Billy.
"Without Melissa Barrera and Sam Loomis, there’s no Billy Loomis. He was in her head. They had their chance at it and didn’t quite get to complete the three-film arc that they talked to me about," the actor said.
Despite that, Ulrich is still grateful for being part of the Scream franchise, since it led to a friendship with his co-star Matthew Lillard, who played Stu Macher.
"We really primarily started doing conventions together, and the dinners after a day of work led to just getting to know each other. That’s gone on for the last 10 to 12 years. In the beginning we finished Scream, and he went one direction, and I went another," he said.
"I wound up moving to a farm in Virginia. He was all over the world filming. So we didn’t really see each other for a long time. And then when we did, it was just a rekindling. We’re both fathers. He’s an incredible father, and we had so much more to discuss later in our lives than we did back then. So I’m proud to call him a friend. He’s somebody I can call and throw anything at and he’s got a good answer and good advice for it."
Is Scream 8 Already in the Works?

Spyglass has started development on Scream 8 following the box office success of the seventh film earlier this year.
So far, plot details are under wraps since it is still in the very early stages. It might take a while before fans are able to find out whether Sidney Prescott will be the story's main focus once again.
Lilla and Nora Zuckerman, who worked on hit shows such as Poker Face and Agents of SHIELD, have been tapped to write the screenplay. They recently worked on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival project that was canceled by Hulu.
During the world premiere of Scream 7, Kevin Williamson revealed that he and Neve Campbell had already been brainstorming concepts. It's unclear why he is not working on the screenplay at the moment.
"When you’re sitting on the set at 3:00 in the morning, you’re like, ‘Well, what would Scream 8 be about?’ And you just start spit-balling," he said.
"And Neve had this great idea, and everyone seemed to run with it. So yeah, if this movie works and people want it, we’re here for the fans. So, if they want it, we’ll certainly give it to them."
