The trailer for Scream 7 has received backlash from fans online and calls for a boycott when it arrives in theaters early next year.
The upcoming installment in the beloved franchise will bring back some of the past cast members, including Neve Campbell, who was notably absent in the sixth film. Kevin Williamson, who wrote the earlier films, serves as director, his first in the franchise. However, despite the DNA of the original in the upcoming installment, fans are not excited about its release.
Why the Scream 7 Trailer is Receiving Fan Backlash
The first trailer for Scream 7 was finally released online yesterday after months of anticipation. However, it quickly received backlash from fans as it reminded them of the absence of two cast members.
Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera are not returning to reprise their roles in the upcoming film. The latter was reportedly fired by Spyglass Media due to her comments on the Israel-Hamas conflict, where she called out the "atrocities being committed against Palestinians."
There have been calls from some fans to boycott its release when it arrives in theaters in February of next year.
Here are some of the posts from fans on X:
Aside from that, some fans are also skeptical about the film's potential quality after seeing the trailer and doubt it will live up to the franchise's best installments.
They pointed out that the film is seemingly going to be a rehash of the previous films, lacks humor based on the trailer, and has mediocre visuals that do not match the level of past entries.
It will be interesting to see whether the second trailer or other promotional materials that get released in the coming months might change the minds of fans, as the film is nearing its release early next year.
