Sunraku has just begun playing Shangri-La Frontier, but he’s already faced one of the game’s Unique Monsters, Lycagon the Nightslayer. After his battle against Lycagon, Sunraku finds markings on his body called the Lycagon’s Mark. So, what is the Lycagon’s Mark in Shangri-La Frontier?
Spoiler Warning: This article contains spoilers from the Shangri-La Frontier manga!
What Is the Lycagon’s Mark?
The Lycagon’s Mark is a curse applied on a player whom Lycagon the Nightslayer deems a worthy opponent.
The Mark placed upon the player’s body is proof that Lycagon recognizes the player as an individual, not as prey.
To receive Lycagon’s Mark, a player must take no damage as vanguard class, survive a normally insta-kill attack without items, skills, or magic, and land critical hits without taking damage.
Since Sunraku was able to put up a decent fight, he was deemed worthy by Lycagon.

What Are the Effects of Lycagon’s Mark?
After receiving Lycagon’s Mark, a player cannot equip anything over the markings. This means Sunraku can no longer put anything on his legs or upper body, which forces him to play Shangri-La Frontier half-naked.
Lycagon’s Mark also drives off low-level monsters from the player, which means Sunraku can only fight high-level monsters now.
Additionally, Lycagon’s Mark also affects the player’s encounters with NPCs (non-playable characters).
With the Mark, the player can unlock special dialogues, as seen in Sunraku’s conversations with the bunny Emul, an NPC.
A player with Lycagon’s Mark also gains strong magic resistance. This means that support magic, like buffs, does not work on Sunraku.

Can Lycagon’s Mark Be Removed?
Yes, the Lycagon’s Mark can be removed. The curse can be removed by a Saint’s prayer or by defeating the creature that applied it.
Later in the manga, Sunraku manages to defeat a Shadow Wolf clone of Lycagon. In doing so, he loses the Lycagon’s Mark but gains the Lycagon’s Scar, which has a different set of effects.
Unlike the Lycagon’s Mark, the only way to have Lycagon’s Scar removed is to defeat the monster that applied it.
This means that for Sunraku to have the Scar removed, he needs to defeat the real Lycagon the Nightslayer, not a clone.
