Marvel's upcoming Shang-Chi movie, which will be called Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, has a lot of people excited since it will give us more Asian representation and MCU head Kevin Feige has confirmed that the cast will be 98% Asian. Fans are also excited to see more of The Mandarin, whose appearance in Iron Man 3 disappointed many, even though it was a really funny moment and fans need to chill the hell out.
Anyway, when speaking with the podcast They Call Us Bruce, director Destin Daniel Cretton has said that there are going to be big changes made to The Mandarin. No, they won't make him a comedy villain like Iron Man 3 (presumably) but it looks like they're going to do something that will make him more relevant to the story, which should be interesting.
"In the same vein, the emotional aspect and the ideas of camaraderie, family, and connection is something that will definitely be a part of this movie."
Reports have been piling in that The Mandarin could end up being Shang-Chi's father in the film, which would be really interesting. Granted, I hope they don't set this plot point up to be a surprise twist but good pacing and stellar acting could make this better than it could be. Here's hoping that Shang-Chi is another good Marvel product.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be showing on February 12, 2021.
