Remember the necklace Sauron had in the first season? The premiere of The Rings of Power season 2 finally reveals where Sauron got the heraldry necklace in the first place.

SPOILER WARNING: This article contains major spoilers for The Rings of Power season 2, so proceed with caution.

The Rings of Power S2 Explains What the Heraldry Necklace is For

As promised, The Rings of Power season 2 introduces Sauron in his human alter-ego form, Halbrand, before he met Galadriel in the series.

The premiere episode, Elven Kings Under the Sky, sees an army of Orcs passing by, one of whom decides to approach Sauron to warn him that the path he was taking could lead to his death. He told the old Orc, "Then this is my path."

While the old Orc aka Diarmid tried to ward him by claiming they were the "fortunate ones" to live, Sauron insisted, "Perhaps the fortunate ones were the first to die."

Then and there, the Dark Lord noticed the heraldry necklace Diarmid carried around.

As the old Orc said, it came from the old Kings who have long gone, and the necklace serves as a reminder that "fortunes can turn, for even the most powerful."

Despite Diarmid's good intention of leading Sauron to a different life by having him join their journey, the tables turned once a gigantic creature attacked their ship.

When Diarmid gets stuck under the rubble, Sauron steals his heraldry necklace. This is likely the same necklace we saw him wear in the first season, which is the symbol of the Southlands king.

Keep in mind that Halbrand and his people no longer have a king or home in the Southlands, and under the belief that they lost their ruler, the heraldry necklace somewhat displayed some hope of direction of what path to take.

And wouldn't you know? Apart from surviving the gigantic worm-like creature last night, his survival led to his eventful meeting with Galadriel.

So, in a way, he took advantage of fate leading him to her by keeping the necklace in his possession. More to be revealed as season 2 unfolds.
