Episode 8 of Sakugan takes a complete turn from the mood of the previous episode, switching from a light story to a dark one. We finally find out more about Gagumber's past and who Zackletu really is.

Sakugan Episode 8 Recap
Gagumber, Memenpu, Zackletu arrive at the Karakara Colony to treat Yuri. The father and daughter still aren't talking, following their argument in the previous episode. Gagumber tells Yuri about his past with his former partner, Rufus. Gagumber also ends up seeing an old man he used to work with before, and they catch up. It turns out that Gagumber used to live in the Karakara Colony in his younger days when he was a Marker. However, his partner, Rufus, died, which greatly affected Gagumber. When Rufus passed, he left behind a little brother named Zack. Following Rufus' death, Gagumber decided to stop becoming a Marker and live a completely different life.
Meanwhile, Zackletu and Memenpu are talking about the latter's dream — how Gagumber died in it, and it felt too real. Even so, Memenpu can't bear to completely hate him since he's family. After Memenpu falls asleep, Zackletu takes her as a hostage and threatens Gagumber. Gagumber rushes to the scene, and he realizes that Zackletu is actually Rufus' younger sibling. She begins shooting and using explosives on him while demanding for an apology and explanation regarding Rufus' death and why Gagumber just ran away from it.
While all of this is happening, Memenpu is tied from the ceiling, screaming at them and telling them to stop. The rope holding Memenpu eventually snaps, causing her to fall off. Gagumber suddenly has enhanced speed because of an illegal chip modification he has called Gale, which he hasn't activated after Rufus' death. He successfully catches Memenpu, but it has consequences on his body. Memenpu tells Zackletu that she still wants her to travel with them, but there will be consequences if she tries anything like that once more. At that moment, Zackletu was reminded of Rufus, who has told her the same thing.
