Ringo Starr revealed that he requested script changes for the depiction of his family life in the four-part The Beatles biopic.
Earlier this year, it was announced that Sony and director Sam Mendes are working on four separate movies about each member of The Beatles. Oscar nominee Barry Keoghan will be playing Starr.
What Script Changes Did Ringo Starr Request on The Beatles Biopic?
Speaking with The New York Times, Starr shared that he offered "extensive notes" on the script about his life in the four-part The Beatles biopic to Mendes.
He particularly took issue with the portrayal of his relationship with his family and first wife, Maureen Starkey Tigrett.
"He had a writer — very good writer, great reputation, and he wrote it great, but it had nothing to do with Maureen and I. I’d say, 'We would never do that,'" Starr said.
After reviewing the script line by line, Starr eventually gave his approval on the script. However, he questioned whether Mendes will be able to finish all four films by 2028.
"But he’ll do what he’s doing. And I’ll send him peace and love," he said.
Keoghan has previously revealed that he has already talked with Starr as part of his preparation for playing the legendary Beatles drummer, and is supportive of him taking on the role.
What to Expect in The Beatles Four-Part Biopic?
Sam Mendes' The Beatles biopic will be an ambitious undertaking as it will consist of four movies, with each told from the perspective of a member. They will be released simultaneously in theaters in April 2028.
The official logline teased: "Each man has his own story, but together they are legendary."
The director told the CinemaCon crowd last April, "I had been trying to do a film for years, but I finally gave up." He felt the "story was too big for one film" and a TV series didn’t seem quite right.
"There had to be a way to tell the epic story for a new generation... I can assure you there is still plenty left to explore, and I think we found a way to do that," Mendes promised.
Aside from Keoghan as Starr, the main cast also includes Paul Mescal (as Paul McCartney), Harris Dickinson (as John Lennon), and Joseph Quinn (as George Harrison).
