Star Wars may be a space fantasy, but its impact on real-life space exploration is staggering; influencing millions to fall in love with spaceships and galaxies far far away.

There have been multiple attempts to bring Star Wars-related things to space, but one particular violinist/astronaut Sarah Gillis has pulled one small string for man, but one giant string for Star Wars fandom.

Rey’s Theme Played in Space

In a recently released video from @PolarisProgram, Gillis is playing Rey’s theme from the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy on violin, making it the first piece of musicever played on violin in space. They even got a full orchestra (on Earth, realistically) backing Gillis with her performance.

Check this out:

What’s great is that they even got legendary Star Wars composer John Williams to collaborate with them for the concert. Here’s the official post:

It is worth noting that the performance is done in support of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and El Sistema USA which promotes higher quality music education for children.

What Rey Skywalker Means to Kids

Though angry middle-aged men on the internet have nothing but bad things to say about the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy and Rey Skywalker, there’s no doubt that the movies have managed to make an impact on its intended target audience—young kids in 2015.

To those kids, Rey is their introduction to Star Wars, and it’s her journey that they’ve followed before they even knew who Luke Skywalker was. Just watching videos of kids meeting Rey in Disney’s Galaxy’s Edge is enough to tell the fandom that Rey Skywalker is an icon, and the kids who grew up with her will definitely be more vocal about their love once they manage to join the comment section on the internet.

If anything, the Sequel haters fail to realize that their beloved Prequel Trilogy was also fiercely bashed when they came out by the OT fans. Hopefully, the ST fans will manage to break the cycle and be positive about new Star Wars content in the future.

Hopefully, the Star Wars grafter problem on YouTube and the rest of social media will be solved by that time.

Rey’s Triumphant Return

Rey has been slated for a return for the past few years, but it does seem that Lucasfilm is trying its best to get the story right for SW’s big return to the big screen.

Multiple release dates have been announced and delayed, but with director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy officially attached, maybe the studio can decide on a final release date before the year ends. In the meantime, fans are still hoping that actors like John Boyega, Kelly Marie Tran, and Oscar Isaac get invited back to reprise their roles.

Hopefully this time around, Lucasfilm will know better than to get influenced by fans. Admittedly, things aren’t looking so good after the cancellation of The Acolyte, but some fans are still hopeful the studio will eventually find some solid footing with the future era of SW.

They can’t stay in the OT timeline forever.

No release date has been set for the next Rey Skywalker movie, but fans are hoping for an update before the year ends.
