Prince Harry and Meghan Markle just visited the United Kingdom earlier this month for Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee celebration. However, according to a royal expert, the Duke of Sussex looked unhappy in his recent sightings in Santa Barbara.
Prince Harry Missing The Royal Family After UK Visit Earlier This Month?
The Duke of Sussex has been playing polo and seen socializing and going out for drinks with his pals. Prince William's younger brother is reportedly trying to settle in his new home, two years after he and his wife, Meghan Markle, stepped down from their royal duties.
Royal expert Duncan Larcombe weighed in on Prince Harry's recent social activities in Montecito. According to him, the royal prince looked homesick and probably reflected if he had made the right decision leaving his life in the UK behind.
"He seems homesick to me. Harry’s suddenly playing polo again and drinking with his new friends – all things he used to enjoy doing in the UK," Larcombe told Closer. "Meghan is cheering him on on the sidelines, helping create this perfect LA life for him to justify what he’s given up in the UK. But something doesn’t seem to sit right. Harry looks unhappy.
"He is living out there in self-imposed exile and Harry is a very sociable person," he added.
According to Larcombe, Prince Harry had many friends during his formative years, not to mention he had been estranged from his brother, Prince William. "He must sometimes wonder if everything he has given up has been worth it," Larcombe continued.
Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Received Cold Welcome During Platinum Jubilee Celebration
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned to his home country and reunited with the royal family to celebrate Queen Elizabeth's 70 years on the throne. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex maintained a low profile while in London during the four-day Platinum Jubilee celebration.
The Queen excluded them from making a balcony appearance as the royal line-up was only limited to the royals, who are still working for the monarchy. They also received a mix of boos and cheers when they arrived and left St. Paul's Cathedral for the National Service of Thanksgiving in honor of the Queen.
According to royal biographer Christopher Andersen, the Sussexes were sidelined and were probably expecting a warmer welcome. He admitted that he was even surprised they were excluded from making a balcony appearance.
"I thought that there would be an opportunity for [Harry] to show up there to show the solidarity [and] the future of the monarchy. … I'm sure they expected to have a warmer welcome than what they received," Andersen told Us Weekly.
Royal correspondent, writer and commentator Jonathan Sacerdoti spoke with Us Weekly's Christina Garibaldi about Prince Harry and Markle's visit to the UK. He echoed Andersen's sentiment because, for him, they were "terribly received."
"They were pretty terribly received here, and I don't think that was entirely undeserved," Sacerdoti told Garibaldi. "However, I think that they did more or less conduct themselves as best as they possibly could here," Sacerdoti said.
Some experts were wondering if the cold treatment toward the Sussexes had made Prince Harry regret his decision to turn his back on his royal life. Andersen believed that it only made him "more determined to live a separate life."
