It might be hard to imagine anyone else but Hugh Jackman playing Wolverine, but now that James Hawlett's sacrificed himself in Logan, the X-Men star considers himself fully retired from the role. Hoping to see Wolverine appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fans have been throwing around names of actors who could replace Jackman as the adamantium-clawed mutant, and that includes the name of Danny Devito.
The Golden Globe Award-winning actor might be considerably older than Jackman, but fans have been rooting for Devito to take on the role as Marvel prepares to introduce the X-Men into the MCU. A petition asking Marvel to cast Devito as Wolverine has somehow become an instant sensation online, gathering close to 49 thousand signatures since its publication.
"The only man able to take the throne after Hugh Jackman," writes the petition's author, Ring Aurius, "We believe that if Wolverine is to make an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that the only man able to pull it off is Danny DeVito."
According to Aurius, DeVito would be the perfect fit for Marvel's Wolverine because of the actor's height is a lot closer to Logan's. Unlike Jackman who is over 6 feet tall, Danny's 4 foot and 10-inch stature comes closer to Wolverine who measures at five foot three.
"Secondly, we all saw Danny's portrayal of the Trashman," the author further explains, "So, we know he is fully capable of fighting, and that he is not afraid when things get dirty!"
Marvel may want someone younger for the role, but we love seeing how fans are so dedicated to seeing DeVito become the new Wolverine.
We'll just have to wait and see.
Phase 4 of the MCU begins when Black Widow premieres on May 1, 2020.
