Fans were shocked when Natasha Romanoff sacrificed herself to get the Soul Stone during the events of Avengers: Endgame since many thought that she would live, simply due to her getting a solo movie. Now that Endgame has, well, ended, fans have come to the natural conclusion that the upcoming Black Widow movie will be a prequel, something other sources have basically confirmed.
However, those hoping that this prequel would lead to Natasha meeting Nick Fury are about to be disappointed. During an interview with Comics Explained, Spider-Man: Far From Home star Samuel L. Jackson confirmed that he would not be in the upcoming Black Widow movie.
"It's Natasha who was always been my favourite because I recruited her. So far, I'm not in her origin story movie [Laughs]. She's the person I was closest to in that group."
Considering how Natasha and Nick have seemingly had a close relationship, at least from what was implied in Iron Man 2 and Captain America: The Winter Soldier, it's kind of a shame that we won't get to see how it begins. Then again, we could always get a post-credits stinger that has Fury bringing Natasha to S.H.I.E.L.D. but that would be bittersweet, given that the character is dead.
No release date for the Black Widow movie has been revealed, though that might change during San Diego Comic-Con. Fans of Jackson's Nick Fury can see the character in action now in Spider-Man: Far From Home, which is showing in cinemas.
