Production for Cate Shortland's Black Widow is well underway. Written by Ned Benson, Scarlett Johansson would be back to play the role of Natasha Romanoff. Along with the likes of Rachel Weisz, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Ray Winstone, and O.T. Fagbenie.
The movie is set between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. Being a prequel movie, some characters are expected to return including someone who has been missing for a while.
William Hurt or General Thunderbolt Ross was spotted in new set photos from Marvel's Black Widow. The photos came from JustJared and you could check them out there.
The photos might have teased the return of Hurt. He was seen seemingly shooting a scene in Georgia for what is believed to be additional photography for the film. Scarlet Johansson was not in the photos though so it isn't clear on what scene the General is filming yet.
William Hurt was introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe way back in Phase 1 with The Incredible Hulk. However, several years have passed before he was seen again in Captain America: Civil War. Hurt was then last seen in Avengers: Endgame in Tony Stark's funeral.
Hurt's return isn't a surprise since, as mentioned, Black Widow will take place after the events of Captain America: Civil War; in which Hurt had a pivotal role to arrest Team Cap and imprisoning them in The Raft. It makes sense to have Thunderbolt Ross' character back in the efforts to continue his search on capturing Steve Rogers along with the others.
Though Ross' scene isn't clear yet, it is suspected that his character would simply be a minor addition to the plot. However, rumors suggest that Ross might be setting up a Thunderbolts project along with Yelena.
As for the movie itself, rumor has it that the first trailer will drop before the year ends.
Catch Black Widow when it hits theaters May 01, 2020.
