As Stranger Things is nearing its final run, Netflix has also been working to expand the franchise with several projects and spinoffs surrounding the series and it is their way to extend the series even after the main show ends soon. Now, we have information regarding one of the projects that are officially moving forward.
According to Deadline, Netflix has given an official greenlight on the untitled Stranger Things animated series. Flying Bark Productions and executive producer Eric Robles are developing the project. However, it is unknown yet what the plot of the animated series will be.
"We’ve always dreamed of an animated Stranger Things in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons that we grew up loving, and to see this dream realized has been absolutely thrilling," the Duffer Brothers said in a statement.
"We couldn’t be more blown away by what Eric Robles and his team have come up with — the scripts and artwork are incredible, and we can’t wait to share more with you! The adventure continues."
While the story and setting of the animated series are currently under wraps, it is still interesting nonetheless that Stranger Things is expanding into the animated world and it is more intriguing that the style and tone might be in the vein of Saturday morning cartoons that most people grew up on.
It is curious to see though whether this animated series is going to be as big as the main series since it will be one of Netflix's first rodeos to expand the franchise. With the Duffer Brother's involvement, there is a lot of promise regarding the quality of the film.
Having Robles attached to the project also adds to its potential quality since he has proven in past works that he has a great voice in the animation space and it is interesting to see what his take on the world of Upside Down will be.
