The Writers Guild of America (WGA) has confirmed a strike is happening on Tuesday.
After having a disagreement with major studios refusing to lend their listening ears to the demands of the writers in terms of proper compensation on Monday night, May 1, the WGA have decided to go forth with their picket signs.
See, the AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers) attempted to negotiate with the increased compensation for the writers and that is by offering $86 million out of the $429 million WGA demanded (via Deadline).
While the AMPTP claimed they were prepared to improve on their initial offer, they are reported to be unwilling to do further due to the “magnitude” of other proposals the guild continues to insist upon.
The WGA West president and committee co-chairs explained how the major companies (Universal, Paramount, Netflix, Amazon, Apple, etc.) “stonewalled” the guild from the very beginning of the negotiations.
Included on the list of WGA’s demands are higher minimum salary, proper compensation for TV show writers on equal basis with film writers, most of which involve financial and job security.

It is worth mentioning that no Hollywood writers means many MCU films and series currently in the works could halt production.
Such MCU works include Thunderbolts (2024), Blade (2024), Deadpool 3 (2024), Fantastic Four (2025), Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (2025), and Avengers: Secret Wars (2026).
Considering that everything early in production is affected amid the WGA strike, the MCU is not the only franchise suffering from this impact.
Given that Marvel Studios and Disney have been facing multiple shake-ups this year, including massive layoffs and exposing writers’ and directors’ exploitation, they cannot afford to lose progress now.
It remains to be seen how long the WGA plans on going on strike, but it certainly spells trouble for Hollywood having no writers on their side until a new contract is formed.
