A recent MCU fan theory has suggested that Henry Cavill's Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine could be the Earth-616 variant of the character.

The DCEU star made a shocking cameo appearance in the recent MCU film to the delight of many fans as most of them did not anticipate the former Superman actor to show up as the Marvel hero.

It remains to be seen for now whether Cavill's Wolverine cameo will lead to more appearances in the MCU, but fans believe that it could be the clue on what we can expect once they introduce the 616 version of the hero.

MCU Fans Theorize Henry Cavill Could Be the Earth-616 Wolverine

X user @Itssan17 shared a fan theory where they suggested that Cavill's Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine might actually be the Earth-616 variant of the beloved mutant.

They believed that the cameo was put in the film to see how the audience would react to his version of Wolverine.

As of this writing, the post has garnered more than 42,000 likes, suggesting that most fans online are in agreement with the theory.

As fans who have seen the film know, the response to Cavill's cameo was mostly positive and met with applause similar to the other surprise actors who appeared.

Some of them consider Cavill's cameo as their way of taking a shot at DC, especially since Deadpool quipped during their encounter that he would be treated better in this franchise.

So far, Cavill has not publicly commented yet about his appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine.

The fan theory may have some plausibility since Marvel Studios has not officially cast the role yet although Kevin Feige has addressed the potential recasting of Wolverine recently and confirmed that a new actor will take over the role at some point.

A lot of fans would definitely be happy if Cavill ended up becoming the MCU's main Wolverine since he has proven enough in his cameo that he has the acting chops and physicality to play the character.

For now, let's wait and see whether Cavill's Wolverine variant will end up becoming a mainstay or if it's simply just an easter egg for fans.

Deadpool & Wolverine is showing in theaters everywhere.
