Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige addressed the potential recasting of Wolverine in the MCU as fans are waiting to see which new actor they'll tap to take over the iconic hero.
For the past 24 years, Hugh Jackman has always been associated with Wolverine and fans have considered his portrayal of the mutant to be one of the best superhero castings of all time.
He is making his return to the role once again in Deadpool and Wolverine. It is unknown yet how long will he stay as Wolverine before a new actor takes over to play the MCU variant.
Kevin Feige on Potential New Wolverine Actor in the MCU
In a recent interview, Feige weighed in on the potential recasting of Wolverine in the MCU.
He assured that they will be recasting the role once Jackman officially ends his tenure, but the new actor's take on the mutant should be different than the previous iteration.
"You know, Marvel is celebrating its 85th anniversary later this summer. That’s just the first 85 years, and Disney just celebrated 100 years as well. I think these characters will be around for another 100 years, long after all of us. So, for sure, there will be [eventually another actor as Wolverine]," the Marvel Studios president said.
"I think it will be in a very different style and in a different way. I also think if somebody were to attempt to do a Hugh Jackman as Wolverine impression, that would be a pretty big mistake."
While most fans would love to see Jackman play Wolverine for a longer time, the role inevitably has to be recast at some point and the MCU will introduce a new version that will resonate for the current generation.
Whoever they cast to play the role, the new actor has a tall order in following the footsteps of Jackman and making sure that he will do Wolverine justice for fans who have been looking forward to seeing the MCU version.
