Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian Ep 2 Reveals Yuki and Kuze’s Relationship
The second episode of the anime surprisingly reveals the real relationship between Yuki and Kuze, who claim they are extremely close childhood friends at school.
As it turns out, Yuki Suou is Masachika Kuze’s little sister (imouto in Japanese), which explains why they share similar features, such as their hair color.
Alya, on the other hand, is clueless about the real relationship between Yuki and Kuze, resulting in her jealousy and competitive behavior against Yuki, whom she considers not only her rival in love but also the student council.
As a result, Yuki takes advantage of Alya's ignorance, as she is somehow aware that the Russian girl has feelings for her older brother.
She would purposefully embarrass Alya in front of Kuze, flashing smug expressions in the process, much to her fans' delight.
So, Why Do Masachika Kuze and Yuki Suou Have Different Surnames in Roshidere?
While Kuze and Yuki are siblings, they do not share the same surname due to their parents' divorce, as revealed in the light novel series.
Kuze went with their father Kyotaro, while Yuki stayed with their mother Yumi in the Suou residence with their strict maternal grandfather, Gensei.
Despite this, Kuze and Yuki’s parents have remained civil with one another.
In fact, Kyotaro still loves Yumi, but he believes that staying with his wife will only hurt her more, as well as put pressure on Kuze, who is meant to be Yuki's successor and destined to do great things, according to Gensei.
This fallout significantly affected Yuki, who believes she has to replace Kuze to fulfill their family’s expectations.
By the end of volume 8 of the light novel series, though, Kuze confesses to Alya that Yuki is his biological sister.
