Marvel To Reportedly Break Ground By Partially Shooting The Eternals On Film

It looks like Marvel is planning to go a bit retro when it works on The Eternals this year. A Phase 4 film, The Eternals is a prequel Marvel movie under the directorship of Chloe Zhao.

Though production has yet to officially begin, Guardian film critic Charles Bramesco went on Twitter to reveal that word on the street says that Zhao actually plans to partially shoot The Eternals on film, something which in the writer's opinion, makes it one of the best Marvel movies to date.

"I heard that Zhao plans to shoot at least in part on 16mm Ektachrome film, which means this will be the best Marvel movie even if only by default," the film critic wrote on his post.

This is definitely interesting. Marvel doesn't really use film, so this would be the first time that we'll get to see a Marvel comic book movie in 16mm Ektachrome film. It also means that Zhao is trying to experiment and try something different for her upcoming Marvel debut.

Right now there's very little information about The Eternals, but during Marvel's San Diego Comic-Con International Panel, the studio introduced the film's stars. That includes Richard Madden who's set to play Ikaris, Angelina Jolie as Thena, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Salma Heyak as Ajak, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Lia McHugh as Sprite, and Don Lee as Gilgamesh.

The Eternals is set for release on November 6, 2019.
