For starters, the original X-Men team in the first issues of the 1960s comic books consisted of Cyclops, Marvel Girl (Jean Grey), Beast, Iceman, and Angel.
It was only in the 1975 issue Giant-Size X-Men #1 that the international roster was introduced, including Storm, Colossus, Nightcrawler, and Wolverine.
So, with 12 years of stories featuring the original five X-Men, there is plenty of lore for the MCU to draw inspiration from.
