Marvel is Reprinting Daredevil's First 'Defenders' Appearance

Daredevil is one of Marvel's most popular heroes and continues to have some of the best comics out right now. Recently, most fans have paired him up with The Defenders, a group of street superheroes comprised of Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Jessica Jones. They even had a comic book together, which a lot of people tend to think is one of Brian Michael Bendis' best.

It turns out that he was in a different Defenders group before the Netflix iteration and Marvel is letting everyone know about that in December.

Thanks to Marvel's December 2019 solicitations (via Newsarama), we know that the publisher will be releasing Giant-Size Defenders #3, which has The Man Without Fear teaming up with Namor, Doctor Strange, Hulk, Valkyrie, and Nighthawk in a "game of chess" against The Grandmaster, who most fans will know from Thor: Ragnarok. It's an unusual team-up for Matt Murdock but one that should be worth revisiting.

GIANT-SIZE DEFENDERS #3 FACSIMILE EDITION
Written by STEVE GERBER, JIM STARLIN, LEN WEIN, BILL EVERETT & STAN LEE
Penciled by JIM STARLIN, BILL EVERETT & STEVE DITKO
Cover by SAL BUSCEMA
It's Daredevil's first adventure with the Defenders! No, not Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist — we're talking the original Defenders: Doctor Strange, Hulk, Sub-Mariner, Valkyrie and Nighthawk, the greatest non-team in comics! And now, the Man Without Fear must join them in a cosmic game of chess played between the ever-manipulative Grandmaster and the playful Prime Mover! The rules are simple — Daredevil and the Defenders vs. a dangerous group of aliens…with the fate of the Earth at stake! And among these enemies is a major threat with a big future ahead of him — Korvac, from the year 2977! One of the biggest power players in the Marvel Universe makes his debut in this action-packed classic! It's one of the all-time great Marvel comic books, boldly re-presented in its original form, ads and all! Reprinting GIANT-SIZE DEFENDERS #3.

While I have mixed thoughts about Marvel's Facsimile Edition comics - why not reprint these in newsprint? - this comic does sound appetizing. A nice big one-shot that shows one of The Man Without Fear's more obscure adventures sounds like a good time and should be a neat read for fans who associate Daredevil with only serious stories.

Giant-Size Defenders #3 comes out this December.
