MARS RED is definitely one series that I'm most curious about watching this coming spring season since it's the first anime to ever be adapted from a dramatic stage reading. The good news is that none of us will have to wait for long because Funimation is launching the first episode of the upcoming dark period vampire drama, MARS RED a full week early!

MARS RED Trailer

In this subtitled trailer, we get a very good idea of what kind of tone this series is going to have, but not much about the actual story. Luckily Funimation has provided us with this official story synopsis:

It's 1923, and until recently, vampires kept to the shadows. When the mysterious blood source Ascra appears, their numbers swell, leaving Japan covered in bodies. In response, the government spawns its own coven to infiltrate the dark.
With S-rank vampire Defrott and the rookie Kurusu, this kill squad is made for one reason: to hunt the undead. Bloodsuckers beware; the night belongs to Code Zero!

Produced by studio Signal.MD and directed by Kōhei Hatano working off scripts written by Jun'ichi Fujisaku, the series adapts a stage reading written by the famed Japanese author Bun-O Fujisawa. MARS RED is definitely set to make a splash when it premieres and Funimation providing the stream a full week early is proof enough for me that this is going to be something worth at least sampling.
