There's no doubt that Mark Hamill will forever be synonymous with the Star Wars brand, but after being involved in the franchise for close to 50 years, there will surely come a time when he'll hang up his Jedi robe and retire his trusty lightsaber.
Recently, the screen legend broke the hearts of many when he expressed his desire to step away from Star Wars. His remarks naturally went viral, and now, Hamill is providing more context to his statements. Is he really done with the franchise? Find out here!
Why is Mark Hamill 'Quitting' Star Wars?

In a new interview, Hamill explained that his journey as Luke Skywalker had already come to a close and that the beloved character had been given the closure it needed. He said: "I don't want to make a big pronouncement like, 'This is my decision.' I'm just saying that it really felt like a conclusion. My character was given complete closure. I died, ironically, by overdosing on the force, I might point out."
The 73-year-old actor added that Star Wars is in a pretty good place currently and that he's looking forward to the future: "And once the Skywalker trilogy was over, it was a whole new era for them. George gave them this amazing canvas- the entire galaxy, they can do westerns, mysteries, comedies, whodunits, anything within that realm of the Star Wars. And they're doing so well. I love Rogue One, The Mandalorian, Book of Boba Fett. I just say, I had my time. I'm really appreciative, but I'm really looking forward to the future, for all these new projects."
Hamill continued: "But I do know that when I mention anything about the space movies, it gets extra scrutiny, as opposed to me talking about anything else. And I said that, and then I saw headlines, 'Mark Hamill quit Star Wars.'"
Is Mark Hamill Still Open to Reprising Luke Skywalker in Future Projects?
While he did clarify that Lucasfilm hasn't reached out to him regarding a potential return, Hamill quipped that he'd be down to doing a project set in the Force Ghost Realm. "Let me just say, they haven't asked me. It's not like they said, 'Please come back. ' Come on, how much can you do with a Force Ghost? I'd like to see a movie set all in the Force Ghost realm, I can have conversations with Alec Guinness," he said.
Hamill previously voiced Luke in 2024's Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy. As for his live-action future, you can never rule out the possibility of him turning up in the next Star Wars film set post-The Rise of Skywalker. Then again, if he thinks the character no longer serves a purpose in a galaxy far, far away, it's only right that we respect his decision.
