Lucasfilm might be stepping back to think about the direction of the Star Wars film franchise, however, it seems like Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has also been teasing the setting of future Star Wars films.
Speaking in an interview with The Wrap to talk about the future of the galaxy far, far away, Kennedy reiterated Lucasfilm's plan to give the Star Wars film franchise a breather so that the studio can "really absorb what George has created and then start to think about where things might go."
While doesn't give Star Wars fans much to go on, the Star Wars producer also seemingly teased potential areas that the franchise might explore now that it's moving away from the Skywalker saga.
"Stories have been told within this universe over the last 40-odd years, and there's now the realization that this is a mythology that actually spans about 25,000 years when you really start to look at all the different stories that have been told, whether it's in books and games," Kennedy told the entertainment news outlet.
Kennedy seems to be pointing towards material from the Star Wars Expanded Universe. Lucasfilm has taken stories from the EU before.
Admiral Thrawn is an example of a popular legends character that's made his way into Star Wars canon, appearing as the main villain of Star Wars Rebels. The studio would benefit from exploring the Expanded Universe, integrating stories that Star Wars fans love.
Perhaps the studio could try to take a look into adapting the Knights of the Old Republic?
