Love Island USA fans are on the edge of their seats for season 7, but others can't help but feel disappointment over the lack of bombshells' turnout. What happened with the newest batch, and what has the director said about it? Find out here.

Why are Bombshells Important in the Love Island Franchise?

Love Island USA season 6 indeed set the bar high for the spinoff. Due to the success the UK version garnered, the American spinoff held promise of potentially earning accolades of its own, as well. That, however, remains to be seen for season 7.

The disappointment lies in the bombshells. See, bombshells are exactly what they are: distractions.

In the context of the Love Island series, it occurs when couples have already formed within the villa, only for the show to test their loyalty and bond by introducing new contestants who could make or break their existing relationships.

It's essentially one of the show's biggest hooks, and yet the seventh season fell the flattest, according to fans' mixed reactions based on the new cast members.

Why are Love Island USA Fans Disappointed with Season 7? What Has the Director Said?

One thing that season 6 did right is that fans felt the cast and couplings were authentic. Season 7, however, feels like a bunch of contestants "playing safe" and more concerned about brand deals outside the Villa rather than committing to finding their match.

Aside from fans feeling that the new batch is too aware of the cameras surrounding them, one Reddit user wrote, "The islanders seem too scared to leave their couple for something that might actually suit them better for fear of being left vulnerable. The couplings are stale."

"Half of them are already influencers, which ruins the fun of LI," another chimed in, "Like I don't want to see ads pop up of them WHILE they're in the villa... seems fishy and the US producers are too hands-on compared to UK."

The show director, Mike Spencer, had previously confirmed that this year's season would feature over 50 bombshells, and yet, fans have grown skeptical after witnessing the weaker contenders emerge.

"Would they not send their best [bombshells] early on?" one fan said, "And so far they have been quite lame at least [with] the boys. No point in sending 25 Sheas and Remells."

Another added, "My only issue is that the bombshells have been weak outside of Yasmin/Malisha, so I feel like the quality hasn't been good, at least from the guy's side."

For now, Love Island USA, Season 7, Episode 27, premieres on Peacock on July 3.
