The Game of Thrones franchise continues to rise with more prequels coming our way. Aside from House of the Dragon season 2 releasing on June 16, we're getting another HBO drama series titled A Knight of Seven Kingdoms.
Considering that the flagship series has yet to explore every corner of Westeros, the upcoming Game of Thrones series may just be what fans need to expand their map of the fictional world.
Here is everything we know about the release date and plot predictions for A Knight of Seven Kingdoms!
A Knight of Seven Kingdoms Release Date
The Game of Thrones prequel has been teased since last year, greenlit at HBO and Warner Bros. Discovery titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight.
Based on George R.R. Martin's Tales of Dunk & Egg novellas, the series is set to follow Ser Duncan the Tall and his little squire, Egg.
But before we dive deep into the storyline, the prequel series is slated for release on Max sometime in 2025, with a shorter format of six episodes.
The main franchise author will serve as a writer and executive producer for the prequel alongside Ira Parker, with House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal working as an executive producer.
Potential Issues the Game of Thrones Prequel May Face
George R.R. Martin is taking excruciatingly long to finish his novel series, specifically The Winds of Winter, which has been a writing in progress since 2010.
Keep in mind that the main Game of Thrones series finished the story ahead of Martin penning the dotted line on the books, which didn't end well for fans, or season 8, for that matter.
The Dunk and Egg stories are an ongoing series of novellas from Martin, and it is indeed a prequel to the main novels, but if we're talking about season 1 to start it all off, then there should be no problem.
There may be timeline continuity issues since the show is going to be set 90 years before the events of Game of Thrones.
Since A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is still currently in production, then there's a chance of delaying filming depending on the main actors' scheduled availability.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Story
Centering Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire named Egg, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will follow the two unlikely heroes navigating their way through Westeros.
There are three novellas in the Dunk and Egg series: The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword, and The Mystery Knight.
The Game of Thrones prequel is set in an age where "the Targaryens still hold the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory."
Ser Duncan the Tall will be played by Peter Claffley (Bad Sisters and Wreck) while "Egg" aka Aegon V. Targaryen will be portrayed by Dexter Sol Ansell (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes).
Stay tuned for more updates about the second Game of Thrones prequel to be greenlit.
