Kirsten Dunst Slams Reuters For Calling Her 'Best Known As Spider-Man’s Girlfriend'

It looks like Kirsten Dunst doesn't like being tagged as someone's girlfriend.

The Spider-Man actress just recently received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and in its social media post about the award, Reuters decided to refer to Kirsten Dunst as the actress "best known for her role as Spiderman's girlfriend." Not only were fans upset that Reuter's grossly misspelled Spider-Man's name in its caption, but fans were outraged by how the site disrespected Dunst by limiting her to just being "Spider-Man's girlfriend" while covering what should have been a major milestone in the actress' career.

Now, speaking in an interview with The Talk, Dunst addresses the incident. Like her fans, Dunst wasn't too pleased by Reuter's careless caption.

"Well, you know... I don't really look at Twitter and stuff, so I'm not really a social media girl. But I was looking for the show and everything, and it felt like, you know, I read it too and was like 'Yeah, that's pretty s****y,'" the actress said on the show, "So I was proud that my fans and everyone rallied around and supported me. It was a very ignorant tweet, and it was probably done very carelessly by a man."

That last bit might seem like a presumption, but it does seem like the caption was made carelessly by whoever is handling Reuter's social media handlers. The site's social media manager may not be familiar with Dunst's other work aside from starring as Mary Jane Watson in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man film trilogy.

Of course, Dunst has had a number of other roles aside from Spider-Man. In the ‘90s she starred in films like Jumanji, Virgin Suicides, Interview with the Vampire, and Bring It On. After Spider-Man, she took on challenging roles in films like On The Road, All Good Things, Bachelorette, and Hidden Figures.
