Kingsman star Taron Egerton had just come off of playing Elton John in Rocketman, but it looks like he's playing another historical figure in his next film.

According to MovieWeb, Tetris is not based on the video game, but rather the history surrounding it, and the film will be covering the messy legal battle about who owned the rights to the hit video game. Egerton will be playing the part of Henk Rogers who, by the end of everything, ended up co-founding the Tetris Company with Alexey Pajitnov.

The movie is actually being directed by Jon S. Baird, who had gotten good reviews with another biopic Stan & Ollie. It's also worth noting that director Matthew Vaughn is onboard as a producer; Vaughn had worked with Egerton in the Kingsman films.

I have to say, Egerton is getting a real knack for doing these biopics. Besides playing Elton John, he had also played the part of Eddie the Eagle alongside Hugh Jackman. Personally, I think they're just so-so movies, but Egerton is a good performer, and I'm sure he's going to do great in this Tetris movie—however it turns out.

While video games usually don't translate well into film, it's going to be interesting to watch a story about the people who made them. Tetris has become such a timeless classic, with resurgences here and there, so it would be fascinating to see the story about the people who made it.

No release date has been set for Tetris, but with the production aiming to start this fall, we could be looking at a release in late 2021 or early 2022.
