In a rare interview with Variety, Basinger reflected on her life and career and explained why she has not made any on-screen appearances in the last several years.

The Oscar winner shot down any speculations that she has retired from acting and said that she is simply "very picky" and reads "a lot of bad material."

She didn't share any details on which projects she was approached to star in the last few years that she turned down or hinted at a possibility of making an acting comeback soon.

Basinger is currently busy with animal rights advocacy as she fights for stronger animal protections worldwide, as well as spending more time with her family.

"I’m a little melancholy. That’s my little tiny, tiny, little angel," she said of her granddaughter.

Kim Basinger Weighs In on Other Issues Surrounding Hollywood

In the same interview, Basinger also weighed in on other issues that are being talked about around Hollywood, including the debate about using intimacy coordinators in filming sex scenes.

"I can’t imagine having somebody come up to me and say, ‘Do you mind if they put their hand here?’ That’s just another person in the room," she candidly said. "Either we work it out or we don’t. I don’t see all of this need for supervised visits."

She was also asked to share her thoughts regarding her L.A. Confidential co-star Guy Pearce's accusations against Kevin Spacey during the making of the film.

"I would not have known about any kind of activity [like that] in any way, shape or form. I shot very closely with Russell Crowe. I shot very close to closely with Guy Pearce. So I really don’t have, honestly, any recollection of even seeing Kevin and Guy," Basinger said.

"But Guy is a lovely human being. I’ve been out to dinner with Kevin years and years ago with someone else that was very famous in the music business, a woman. But other than that, I really don’t know Kevin Spacey."

The Oscar winner added, "The truth is that it was a boys club. My pal, my dearest friend on the movie and outside the movie was [director] Curtis [Hanson]."
