Kevin Spacey hits back at Guy Pearce after the latter claimed he might have been a victim of the Academy Award-winning actor’s sexual misconduct on the set of L.A. Confidential.
Spacey, who played Detective Shotgun Ed in the 1997 neo-noir film, gave a strong response to his former co-star in a video post.
Guy Pearce Reveals He Was Targeted by Kevin Spacey in the Past
The heated exchange between Spacey and Pearce began when the Australian actor told The Hollywood Reporter that the 65-year-old star was “handsy” and targeted him during the filming of L.A. Confidential.
Pearce’s claims added to the allegations that have surrounded Spacey in recent years, which have put his acting career on hold.
In 2023, four men filed sexual misconduct complaints against Spacey, though he was not found guilty. More recently, a new allegation has been brought to the high court. He continues to deny all claims.
Now, Pearce has shared his experience working with Spacey, explaining that he brushed off the actor’s behavior for five months.
"And, really, I was sort of scared of Kevin because he's quite an aggressive man. He's extremely charming and brilliant at what he does,” he told THR.
Pearce also said that if he was in a room with Simon Baker, who also starred in their ’90s film, he felt safe, as Spacey tended to “target” Baker more.
The Brutalist star realized the severity of Spacey’s actions after the #MeToo movement in 2017, which exposed sexual abuse in Hollywood. That moment made him break down and sob.
Kevin Spacey on Pearce’s Claims: ‘You Are Not the Victim’
In response to Pearce’s claims, Spacey made his thoughts public and told the Australian actor, “If I did something then that upset you, you could have reached out to me.”
The 1-minute, 42-second video, captioned "Grow up, Guy Pearce. You are not the victim," shows Spacey facing the camera directly while sitting in a room.
The actor went on to say, “You really know what my response is? Grow up. Did you also, by the way, tell the press that a year after we shot L.A. Confidential, you flew to Savannah, Georgia, while I was shooting Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil just to spend time with me?”
Spacey, who admitted on Piers Morgan Uncensored last year that he had been “handsy” and had “pushed boundaries,” also mentioned in the X video that he apologized for not realizing Pearce did not want to spend time with him.
"That you would have just been leading me on, right? But here you are now on a mission, some 28 years later, after I've been through hell and back." Spacey added.
He wrapped up by saying he would be happy to have a conversation with Pearce anytime, anywhere.
