Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently provided a discouraging update on the potential sequel of Eternals.
While the film was not received well by the critics and had a modest box office performance, fans are still hoping that Marvel will proceed with a sequel and follow the characters in their next journey.
So far, in the subsequent MCU releases, we've only seen easter eggs on the characters as Marvel has not shared any plans for their future even as we're now approaching three years since the film arrived in theaters.
Marvel Studios Has No Immediate Plans to Do an Eternals Sequel
In a recent interview, Feige was asked whether they are developing a sequel to Eternals. Unfortunately, he confirmed that they have no plans anytime soon.
"There are no immediate plans for Eternals 2," he said.
However, Feige acknowledged that Tiamut will be making a return which was teased in the recently-released teaser trailer of Captain America: Brave New World.
He added, "There are, and I think you've seen maybe in a trailer we've released recently, an acknowledgment of some of those events. Certain giant things came out of the ocean."
This is a disappointing update for some fans who have been looking forward to seeing the surviving members of the Eternals in a potential sequel.
However, considering its polarizing reception, it should not have been surprising to hear that Marvel Studios has no plans to develop a sequel and it is likely that they will let the characters join a non-Eternals MCU project instead.
For now, Marvel is more focused on developing projects that feature more beloved characters and it is exciting to see what other unknown projects they will announce in the studio's upcoming San Diego Comic-Con Hall H presentation later this week.
