Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently confirmed that the Mutant era in the MCU will finally begin after the release of Deadpool and Wolverine.
Fans have been looking forward to the upcoming MCU film not only because it will bring back Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in their iconic roles, but it is also the first film in the franchise that is led by mutant characters.
Since Disney acquired Fox in 2019, there has been anticipation of the mutants' debut in the MCU. So far, we've only seen small glimpses whether it's the confirmation of Kamala Khan as a mutant or the Beast's cameo in The Marvels.
The MCU is Heading to Mutant Era After Deadpool and Wolverine
In a recent interview, Feige confirmed that the Mutant era will finally begin in the MCU after the events of Deadpool and Wolverine.
He explained that all MCU movies after Deadpool and Wolverine will lead to the Mutant era coming to the MCU.
"Also, the ‘after’ is clearly—now that we have characters from the X-Men world, the Mutants—we haven’t had access to before," the Marvel Studios president said.
"So, this is the beginning of that, and every [movie] post-Deadpool and Wolverine will be the Mutant era coming into the MCU."
It is also likely that Feige was teasing that the mutants would be the main focus of the MCU's next saga, which is what fans have been speculating about for the past few years.
Considering that the MCU has been teasing the arrival of the mutants since Phase Four, it might be unsurprising for some fans to hear this news, but it is still exciting that we got the confirmation from Feige himself that the mutants are indeed coming to the MCU soon.
There is a huge possibility that Deadpool and Wolverine might be the gateway for the arrival of the mutants in the MCU proper, and it is curious to see how they will integrate them and join the other established heroes in the franchise.
Deadpool and Wolverine is set to arrive in theaters this Friday, July 26.
